Mike Taylor reappointed as Chair

Mike Taylor has been reappointed as Chair of Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) for a further year until 31st October 2017.

His reappointment follows a comprehensive appraisal process that included seeking the views of governors and board members. The feedback received praised the work Mike has done in leading the Trust and the Governors Council and expressed that he was the right person to continue leading CPFT for a further year.  The Trust’s Governors Council Nominations Committee echoed this view, by recognising Mike’s significant contribution to the Trust as Chair.

Mike has played a leading role in providing continuity during challenging times, he has facilitated leadership meetings within the health and social care alliance, has worked closely with regulators Monitor that resulted in the Trust coming out of enforcement undertakings, and been actively involved with key partners such as the Third Sector Health Network, West Cumbria Community Forum, the League of Friends and Safer Cumbria.

Lead Governor Jane Smith said, “The Governors’ Council unanimously approved his reappointment as Chair as Mike has shown a steely determination to make sure people can work together across organisations so that our communities can live healthier, happier and more hopeful lives.  We are entering a time of unprecedented change across Cumbria with a Vanguard in the South of the County and a Success Regime spanning the North.  Others may fear that this will tear services apart but Mike brings a clear understanding of how services can be knitted together to make sure people get the right care sooner.  An example of this is his support with the innovative Hospital at Home scheme in Carlisle where people can choose to be cared for by Doctors, Nurses and Therapists in the comfort of their home instead of a hospital cubicle.  This helps people feel better quicker and stops carers and family getting exhausted from travelling long hours to visit hospitals.

Mike said: “I am delighted to be reappointed as Chair of the Trust at a time when health services in Cumbria is high on the public agenda. I am very much looking forward to carrying on working with the Board of Directors and Governors Council, our hard-working staff, service users and carers and other stakeholders to ensure our Trust continues to make progress in delivering the highest possible quality of service we can achieve.”

As a foundation trust, the task of appointing or reappointing a Chair falls to the Trust’s elected Governors Council. The Governors’ Council has a duty to represent the views of its 16,437 members and the public and can be contacted through CPFT to come and listen to your ideas about what services you think work or could be done differently AskYourGovernor@cumbria.nhs.uk
