Cumbria Partnership Chief Executive reflects on achievements of year

Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating the achievements of 2014/15 at its Annual Members’ Meeting at Rheged in September.
Chief Executive Claire Molloy said “The Trust has had considerable recognition for many aspects of its work – from award winning individuals and initiatives to the many new projects which have been developed over the year. To name just a few: there have been significant developments in working with our partners including improving health services in Millom; securing National ‘Vanguard’ status for the Better Care Together Programme in South of the County; and we were successful in our bid for funding to improve emotional wellbeing support provision for young people.”
During the year the Trust has continued to develop its vision of supporting people in its communities to live happier, healthier and more hopeful lives. To achieve this, and in order to prioritise quality, health services in Cumbria were reorganised into four care groups – community, mental health, children and families and specialist services. This was an extensive change to the previous locality based structure, but thanks to the hard work of everyone involved expert clinicians now have far more input into how services are provided. The Trust’s Board of Directors and senior management team have been restructured to provide a much more clinical focus. The Trust has also been working closely with other NHS organisations and Cumbria County Council order to improve health and social care services across the county.
Claire continues “This has been a big year for staff engagement. There has been significant work by the Executive team to embed our key values throughout the organisation (Kindness, Fairness, Spirit and Ambition) and encourage all staff to contribute to improving the quality of care for patients through the ‘Small Change Big Difference’ and ‘Listening into Action’ approaches. Both of these approaches are starting to see improvements made thanks to the ideas of staff at all levels.”
While putting in place improvements in quality and celebrating the successes, the Trust has had to manage some continuing challenges, including a tightening financial situation. Claire adds “In line with the picture nationally and locally, we are spending more than we are earning. Key to ensuring we can provide sustainable, high quality services for our patients in the future is continuing to work better together with our partners. Only through partnership working can we transform services so that more patients are receiving their care as close to home as possible. What is encouraging this year, is the way staff have risen to these challenges and are using them as opportunities to make quality improvements in the delivery of our services and the care of our patients. It has been a challenging but positive year for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and I’m looking forward to seeing what 2015/16 has in store for us, our partners and the people of Cumbria.”
The Annual Members’ Meeting will take place on Wednesday 23rd September at Rheged, Penrith from 11am – 3.30pm.
