Clean your hands!
Published: 1st May 2015
Clean hands have the potential to save 8 million lives every year in hospitals alone and hand hygiene action can provide assurance that the health system overall is a safe place to receive care.
As a Trust we are supportive of raising the profile of hand hygiene action and on the 5th May there is a countrywide campaign aiming to promote this. There are also various social media campaigns going on which you can find out more about on the Safe Hands Save Lives website.
Washing your hands is the single most important way to prevent the spread of infections such as:
- Diarrhoea and vomiting
- Food poisoning
What can you do?
- As a clinical staff member please take the time to think about hand hygiene and the “5 moments of care” when we should wash our hands in everyday practice.
- Ensure you have completed your annual mandatory hand hygiene training.
- Encourage patients and visitors to wash their hands and provide hand wash wipes for bed bound patients.
- Challenge poor practice in your workplace. Infection prevention is everyone’s business.
