Dentists do have a sweet tooth!!
Published: 22nd July 2015
Matthew Stephens, a dental student in his 4th and final year of study was recently given a unique present as a thank you from his patient.
The patient had attended the Carlisle Dental Education Centre for 37 appointments, over an 18 month period, for a full mouth reconstruction treatment plan. The range of complex work included routine fillings, replacement crowns, occlusion analysis and rehabilitation, overdentures to improve the bite, a course of periodontal (gum) therapy and preventive health advice.
The patient presented Matthew with a unique gift - a cake which was enhanced and decorated with a tooth brush, toothpaste and dental equipment in his appreciation of the effort, skill and the time spent on his care. So not to encourage too much tooth decay Matthew shared the cake with his colleagues as a risk reduction exercise!!
The patient will now be able to smile with confidence in the knowledge that his dentition is not only fully functional but aesthetic too; he will receive ongoing maintenance care from his high street dental practitioner who referred him to the Dental Centre for specialist treatment.
Stephen Jones Clinical Director for the service said “Matthew has displayed attributes that the dental profession expects – care, dedication, delivery of clinical treatment to high standards and acting in the patient’s best interests; such characteristics will serve him well for his future career”.
