Diabetes Awareness Week

Diabetes Awareness week 14th - 20th June

Pictured above are staff from Cumbria Diabetes team and Dr Westgate who joined volunteers from Diabetes UK in a roadshow event in Carlisle City Centre on the 18th and 19th June. Members of the public were encouraged to visit the roadshow to learn about their risk in developing Type 2 Diabetes.They were asked to complete a questionnaire and depending on outcomes and level of risk they were given advice on what steps they could take to make a difference. Dr Robert Westgate GP with a specialist interest in Diabetes, Annette Routledge Specialist Diabetes Nurse and Tina Brown Dietician were on hand to answer any questions, offer advice, provide useful information to those who attended. There was an exercise bike, hoola hoop and stepper available to try out to encourage exercise which is a lifestyle change which can make a big difference. Information on good food choices was available, free fruit samples were handed out.  Also present were Andrea Heslop and Anne Gate  from the Retinal Screening team.There will be another roadshow will be in Penrith on Saturday 20th. 

It expected over 200 will people visit the stand in the city centre over the next two days. There is an online risk tool. http://riskscore.diabetes.org.uk/start
