Mammoth broadcast for hospital radio anniversary
Published: 3rd April 2017
The local hospital radio service is opening its doors to the public and NHS staff to celebrate 40 years of the charity. The station, which is ran entirely by volunteers, invites you to take a look behind the scenes of the station when it holds it’s 40 Hour Weekend from 6am on Good Friday until 10pm on Saturday 15th April.
Bay Trust Radio, which is based in the Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal, has been on air since 1977 and broadcasts 24 hours a day to patients, staff and visitors of Morecambe Bay Hospitals including in Kendal and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
The event, which is to celebrate the anniversary and also raise funds for the station, will see special guests, local musicians and much more over Easter Weekend. It is a chance to see the station in action and see the hard work that volunteers do each day to make a difference.
Station Manager, John Williamson, says “Hospital radio has moved on a lot over the years and now we do more for care in the community, as well as inside the hospitals.”
“Every hour in our main studio, presenters will be broadcasting live with link ups to our reporters across the area including North Lancashire, South Cumbria and also our event supporter Hayes Garden World in Ambleside, who will also be broadcasting the event live in their store with members of our team.”
“This is a rare opportunity for both members of the public and staff of the Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust to tour the radio station, watch a programme as it goes out live and learn more about what the fantastic team of volunteers do. You’ll also see the brand new equipment that has just been installed and our newly refurbished complex.”
“The station is looking for enthusiastic, passionate people to join the team of volunteers at Bay Trust Radio who want to help make our 40th year the best one yet - and beyond! From presenting and producing programmes to ward visiting, events organising and community liaison - there is something for everyone!”
