Record number of staff at CPFT get their flu jab
Published: 23rd February 2017
A record 66.4% of front line staff at Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) have had their flu vaccination this season.
Jane Morphet, Immunisation Coordinator at CPFT said:
“This is an amazing result, and the highest we have ever achieved. We want to thank all staff for taking the time to have their vaccination. We encourage all our staff to have the vaccination to protect them from flu as well as to reduce the risk them passing on flu to others.
“As a Trust our services are spread far and wide across the county which makes reaching all of our staff challenging at times. The dedication from all of our immunisers has paid off. We hope this figure keeps growing, and our aim is to get it even higher next flu season.”
Jane has been personally affected by flu three times in the past, which is why she is so passionate about NHS staff getting their vaccination, she explains:
“Sadly I have seen first-hand how devastating flu can be. A friend of mine passed away after contracting flu, and another had to retire on ill health grounds after becoming seriously unwell with flu.
“Before I worked for CPFT my husband caught the flu and developed pneumonia, it hadn’t occurred to me at the time, but I now realise that I probably carried the flu virus and let it into our home. It really is so important that everyone has their flu jab, particularly those at risk.”
Information on the flu virus and vaccination can be found on the NHS website, the vaccination is available in local pharmacies and through GP’s. Members of the public who are in at risk groups are entitled to a free flu vaccination, this includes pregnant women, those aged 65 or over and those with long term medical conditions or weakened immune systems.
The flu vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and those around you from the flu virus.
Notes to editor
The overall trust flu vaccination uptake is 63%.
The free flu vaccination is part of the national Flu Fighters campaign led by NHS Employers, which encourages all NHS staff to have their vaccination.
