Relax and breathe easier at our COPD event
Published: 31st October 2016
World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) day is approaching and the Furness Respiratory Care Team at Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) want to ensure everyone is aware of what help is available to them.
This year World COPD Day is on Wednesday 16th November, the team are hosting a ‘Lively Lungs’ event in Barrow on this day for those who are worried they may have COPD, or any other respiratory condition, along with their friends and relatives. There will be experts on hand to provide information as well as the opportunity to practice Thai Chi and get relaxation tips.
Helen Haney, CPFT Respiratory Nurse in the Furness Respiratory Care Team said:
“We are really excited about our Lively Lungs event, we are hoping that anyone who has any worries about their respiratory health come along to get some advice and see what services we have to support them. Even if it’s as simple as feeling breathless, having a cough or wheeze these could be the first signs of a lung condition, catching these signs early will help with the management of the condition.
“We want to show people that they can improve their quality of life if they are suffering with a condition and that you can live well with COPD.”
The event is free and is taking place at Hawcoat Park Sports Centre, Hawcoat Lane, Barrow in Furness, from 10.30am – 3.30pm, attendees will also get to enjoy some afternoon tea whilst speaking to health professionals including representatives from Age UK.
Activities on the day will include Tai Chi and relaxation methods, gentle physical activities and a taster of the pulmonary rehabilitation which the team run. Information stalls will also be present on the day and will include nutritional advice, smoking cessation and equipment aids advice.
