Dietitians help promote nutritional well-being, treat disease and prevent nutritional-related problems. They provide advice based on current scientific evidence and translate this into understandable and practical information about food, allowing people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.
The Dietetics team provide this service to adults, either as an inpatient or an outpatient. They support and treat a range of conditions with dietary therapy including:
- Newly diagnosed Coeliac Disease
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Severe unintentional weight loss/malnutrition
- Pancreatitis; both acute and chronic
- Cholesterol lowering
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Eating Disorders
- Weight management
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Patients requiring tube feeding
The Dietetics team run general clinics in hospitals and GP surgeries. They also deliver group education sessions, training and presentations to both patients and other healthcare professionals. People can be referred to a dietitian through their GP or a district nurse.
