Occupational Therapists help people with health problems to do the everyday activities that matter to them. These health problems could be physical health issues, such as rheumatoid arthritis or a hip replacement, or a mental health condition, such as bipolar disorder.
An Occupational Therapist will assess your ability to do everyday activities and work with you to help maintain your independence. This may include practicing an activity, learning to do an activity a different way or providing equipment to support you when doing an activity.
You can access an Occupational Therapist through your GP or can be referred into the service by a nurse or other health and social care professional.
NHS Choices provide further information on Occupational Therapy.
