Emergency Contraception

You can get free emergency contraception from a:

•Pharmacy
•G.P.
•Sexual Health Clinic
•CHoC or A&E (as a last resort)

There are 3 kinds of emergency contraception:

Levonelle: a pill that has to be taken within 72 hours (3 days) of sex.

ellaOne: a pill that has to be taken within 120 hours (5 days) of sex.

IUD: intrauterine device can be inserted into your uterus up to 5 days after sex, or up to 5 days after the earliest time you could have ovulated.

If you need emergency contraception from one of our sexual health clinics please call your preferred clinic during the first 45 minutes of the opening times. You will speak with a nurse and, if appropriate, arrange an emergency appointment for that day.
