How to become a Governor

As a Foundation Trust, Cumbria Partnership has a Governors Council to represent the views of members and the public.

  • You need to be a member of the Trust and any member can stand for election.
  • All staff are members unless they have opted out.
  • Staff vote for staff members and the public vote for public members.
  • We then have some key partners who select people from their organisation to be part of the Governors Council.

To join as a public member complete our online membership form

Governors have produced a leaflet explaining their role and that of members which can be seen here

Governors have a duty to serve the public and members by taking up opportunities and training that will assist them to scrutinise closely the workings and operations of the Trust.

Election 2018 Results

The Election closed on 13 December and the Declarations of those Elected following ballots in Copeland and South Lakeland; and those Elected Unopposed can be found here

This is a really exciting time to become a Governor, particularly as we are now working much more closely with our colleagues at North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust. This means in the future there will be even more opportunities to get to influence and to help shape more health services in the county.

We are looking for enthusiastic people to nominate themselves as a candidate in the elections.  You then write a short piece about what you are passionate about and what skills you can bring. Then the vote begins!

Governors are a really important part of a Foundation Trust and are able to contribute their views and ideas for the Trust’s future plans and priorities, as well as holding the Non-Executive Directors’ (NEDs) to account for the Board performance. Being a Governor is also a great way to engage with your community and learn more about local health services provided in your area. We need your fresh ideas to do this better.
