Alston (Ruth Lancaster James) Community Hospital
Update April 2017: inpatient beds have temporarily closed due to recruitment challenges. The nurse led treatment centre is operating on reduced hours (currently 8am- 11pm) but the day hospital, GP surgery and any outpatient appointments are unaffected
Alston's Ruth Lancaster James Hospital is a 6 bed patient facility providing medical, nursing and rehabilitation and end of life care. The community hospital enables local people to be cared for close to their own home.
The Alston hospital is integrated, with staff working across hospital and community.
A seven place day unit operates from the hospital Monday-to-Friday. This is the outcome of a commitment to partnership working made by NHS Cumbria, Adult Social Care and Age Concern Carlisle and Eden who have linked together to provide an integrated service for adults from Alston, the highest market town in England and Alston Moor, the most remote area of Cumbria.
This seamless service aims to deliver care closer to home by making best use of resources and by offering a Day Care facility that provides high quality, effective health and social care
